May 28, 2016: Open MeetingDate and Time: Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 10am-12pm
Location: Miller Library Description: The Planet Protection Program hosted an open meeting recruitment event to promote membership for next year. Students who attended had the opportunity to learn about our program's mission, structure, accomplishments, and goals. Additionally, attendees worked in committees to experience what it would be like to be a member of each committee. Georgia Eacker from the Howard County Environmental Sustainability Board and University of Maryland Master Gardeners extension commended the students' passion. The Planet Protection Program hopes to receive more applications for membership and host another recruitment event in the fall. Students in Attendance: 18 |

April 23, 2016: Project Clean StreamDate and Time: Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10am-1pm
Location: Ingleside Community in Clarkesville, Maryland Description: Members of the Planet Protection Program worked with the Patapsco Heritage Greenway again to clean a stream and habitat around a residential community. We found a variety of interesting items, including mattresses, desks, tires, and a shocking number of plastic bags. Members were shocked at the amount of trash, with a final total weight of 3,096 lbs. Initially, the stream was barely flowing, but after removal of this trash, the velocity of the water increased dramatically and the stream began to flow again! Members in Attendance: 4 |
April 16, 2016: GreenFest WorkshopDate and Time: Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10am-4pm, (workshop from 3:00pm-3:30pm)
Location: Howard Community College Description: Members of the Planet Protection Program presented a workshop about composting and cracked some of the negative myths about it.
